About
MA RUI
Ma Rui (1986-) grew up in a family of nephrite carvers. His father, Ma Xuewu, is a national-level nephrite carving master who has devoted decades to the art of Hetian nephrite carving.
With his works collected by numerous museums, Ma Xuewu has also dedicated himself to the inheritance and promotion of Xinjiang nephrite culture.
Such a profound family heritage has made Ma Rui one of the few jewelry artists who possess both "Eastern philosophical thinking" and "contemporary artistic expressiveness.
Adhering to the creative philosophy of "Conveying philosophy through artifacts and expressing the full essence via imagery," Ma Rui integrates three core elements—intangible cultural heritage nephrite carving, philosophical translation, and technological integration—into every work. He has also innovatively proposed the "Yin-Yang Carving Technique" and the "Three-Layer Imagery Transformation" design methodology, thereby constructing his unique aesthetic system.
With a perspective that transcends cultures and connects the past with the present, he consistently promotes the contemporary transformation of traditional craftsmanship, striving to build a system of artistic jewelry uniquely infused with Eastern philosophical insights and contemporary ethos. Through this, he explores an entirely new design language that is "unprecedented in the East and unseen in the West.
Since founding his eponymous brand, Ma Rui’s works have been featured in top international exhibitions such as Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show (Switzerland) and Couture Show (Las Vegas, USA).
He has also garnered numerous prestigious international awards, including the MUSE Design Awards (USA), Novum Design Award (France), and A’Design Award (Italy), solidifying his status as the pioneer of "wearable Eastern philosophy." His creations have been presented as national gifts to heads of state from various countries at the Great Hall of the People, and praised by France’s Le Figaro for "historically transforming the geopolitical landscape of Asian jewelry in the European market."
Through his extraordinary creative practice, Ma Rui continues to advance the recognition and influence of China’s intangible cultural heritage of nephrite culture on the global stage.
