Ma Rui is an inheritor who took the carving knife from his father’s hands, yet he refuses to be a mere copyist of tradition. Those time-honored crafts passed down for millennia—such as the restraint of "intaglio carving" and the agility of "interlocking rings"—are deconstructed and reorganized in his hands. He transforms the physical logic of "interlocking rings" into flexible structural joints in jewelry; he applies the limits of "filigree" micro-carving to setting fragile and rare gemstones. Delving into the core of traditional crafts, he extracts their aesthetic genes—"expressing spirit through lines" and "the interdependence of presence and absence"—and transforms them into a brand-new language that aligns with contemporary wearing needs and aesthetics. When Algorithms Meet Craftsmanship
3D digital modeling is an extension of Ma Rui’s creative conception. It allows pushing the boundaries of gravity and craftsmanship, materializing complex structures that cannot be directly carved by hand. In the digital world, we infuse lines with the rhythm of "feibai" (flying white) like calligraphy, and reserve "the sense of breathiness from hand polishing" for the structure. These "humanized" digital models are ultimately transformed into physical entities layer by layer through high-precision 3D printing technology. This is not only the first step in manufacturing, but also a key guarantee for bridging abstract philosophical contemplation and physical entities, ensuring that whimsical creativity can be perfectly materialized.
